Getting Older

Gone are the days when I could lay comfortably for hours on a hard floor while still enjoying television, get up the morning after the Turkey Bowl and not have to take Advil, or sleep on a tent floor without a mat and still feel good about it in the morning :)

As I get older I slowly begin to yearn again for the days when my body didn't ache in the morning, when I healed faster, and could get up in the morning after a long night as if it never even happened.

Now I start a new chapter in life...it goes something like this "take it easy on Dad kids" or "careful, that hurts Dad's back". Yes, I am in awe of the sheer level of comfort my young son exhibits at all times, and occasionally I AM jealous.
This just isn't any New York Life, its OURs, and we love it!

Familiar Territory

It seems I start a lot of projects...large projects but struggle finishing them. It's not lack of will or desire, but I run into real challenges. Take one of my latest projects...staining the deck. Not hard right? Rent a pressure washer, dry, stain, apply sealer, and you're done...WRONG!

Yup, pressure washer was great for peeling the wood off (note only between the grains) but the stain stayed. 1 week later purchased a belt sander...very effective, but painfully slow and sanding a deck in the afternoon sun is sooo much fun. That's right...rent a wood floor sander...or at least that's Monday's project. We still have to sand the square balusters and the posts/rails...then stain & seal. So how does a day project turn into a 4 week endeavor...simple...it's Our New York Life...and I love it!
